I find the mystery behind the Mayan Calendar fascinating. Some friends of mine had great interest in it so I wanted to find a way to explain it to them as "I" feel it to be...
Here is how it was explained to me:
December 21st, 2012 - Modern astronomy can tell us a lot about the facts of where we will be in space at that time, where our planets will be, etc. The thing is that the ancient Mayans, Sumerians and the Egyptians knew about this long ago, and left their art recordings behind for us.
What do we know about this date? Well, we know that on that date, our the bodies in our solar system will all be in alignment. The Transit of Venus will occur once again due to Venus passing in front of the Sun. Our Sun will also be in the peak of its solar cycle, causing some groups to speculate that the magnetic poles of our Earth and possibly other planets could be shifted or reversed altogether.
Besides all this activity occurring in our Solar System, the solar system itself will be in perfect alignment with the elliptical plane of our Milky Way galaxy. It will be the first time this has occurred in gazillions of years.
Also, the area of space that our solar system will occupy at that time will be in the middle of a strange nebulous cloud that scientists have been studying and tracking for a few years now. We do not have a clear understanding of what the clouds effects could be on our Solar System and the Earth itself.
1) Our sun will be at the peak of a Solar hissy fit.
2) Our planets will be in alignment.
3) Our entire Solar System will be aligned with the elliptical plane of the galaxy.
4) We will be in the middle of a strange nebula.
Take this modern astronomical knowledge, and apply it to the ancient legends of our ancestors. The Mayans refereed to this period as the "Cycle of Civilization." They even accurately predicted these alignments to the date, thousands of years ago. And they chose to end their calender on this date. Not to restart it, but to END it.
No one can know for sure what will happen during the strange times of late 2012, but as the date draws nearer, we are certain to learn more.

This is some what spooky but the calendar was probably not finish yet so don't be too scared there is a 50% 50% present chance that is wasn't finish.
lol yea sure there, The Mayans wouldn't leave a calender unfinished. I bet you anything, that they phsychologicaly know that the world will end on December 21st 2012. Believe it. They wouldn't leave a calender unfinished. Mayans take their thoughts very seriosuly and wouldn't leave a calender unfinished to get out into the world and freak everyone out, and leave it up to the government to do something. Really really think about it, I think most of the world is saying " its not going to happen" because there trying to keep the world peace and calm. When really, " THIS COULD JUST HAPPEN" and we still haven't done anything to help us in this situation.
My personal belief is that whoever was writing the calender took a break and looked out onto the ocean and saw some spanish boats. I hope you all know what happens after that
We counldnt do any thing if we wanted to. The end will come reguardless if that is to be. Just like The Ice age unpreventable and the the years of heat and drout to melt the ice age. Just like the lost cities in the bottom of the ocean, Dino days , cavemen , we coudnt stop it then and we cant stop it now, The earth just continues to renew its self after billions of years and mother nature will never stop unpredicted weather that helps the solar system rejuvenate its self and the rest of plants every so often. We are just a part of its and this particular cycle.
And yes they ended the calendar. They do Hundreds of yrs time for a break and make more when the time comes closer. The name Cycle of Civilization, Means the NEW Cycle of Civilization, The Cycle starts over, make a new calendar, but wanted to wait to make sure the system and cycle corrospond with the correct cycle now or if things will change NOT end but change, JUST like Before the calendar
